The Student's Guide to College Music Programs: 2006 Edition The publishers of School Band and Orchestra magazine proudly present the third annual The Student's Guide to College Music Programs, a unique book which offers expanded state-by-state listings of more than 1,300 college and university music programs. For each of the schools in the book, detailed information is given, including basic admission contacts, course requirements and music programs. Every state also has its own "home page," with useful facts for students, such as music programs within the state, the state capitol, and population figures. The book includes invaluable articles on financial aid, what's expected of incoming freshmen, following a musical vocation, and more.
Leveling the Playing Field: Justice, Politics, and College Admissions Leveling the Playing Field examines the admissions policies of contemporary American colleges and universities in light of the assumption that enhancing the educational opportunities of lower-income and minority students would make American society more just. The book evaluates controversies about such issues as the nature of merit, the missions of universities, affirmative action, the role of standardized tests, legacy preference, early decision, financial aid, the test-prep industry, and athletics.
